    i've become#4 on the 11 Workplace Personalities

I have had to become the "thats not my job person" because my prevoius behaviour of being helpful has put my job in jeopardy. I have been with my company for 4yrs and got transferred to this location 16mos ago, having been assured at that time that i was "going to work for a nice lady". Actually, she is a manipulative, paranoid and inept & seems to have no accountability. I am the 3rd person in 2 years to hold this job. She has bullied the other 2 the same way I hear. Even 2 of the Unioned staff have transferred out in the last 4 months. I made my request 6 months ago because this transfer has doubled my commuting time and expenses, but there have been no openings. There no raise with the transfer to ofset my extra expense. I actually lost $110 a month because it was mandatory to join the pension plan. BUT i never complained. I was transferred in on the basis that not only am I experienced (14 yrs doing this type of work) I also have excellent computer skills-which was important in establishing the new Dbase that was being implemented at that time. My job required me to wear more hats than my previous position and some of these hats are not in my job description but i wear them anyway. No one here was at all computer literate & some even were "PC virgins"! I've often had to drop my work in order to rescue peoples lost files, Word glitches and the "my screen went blank..." moments, all of which were due to their inexperience. This even includes my boss herself!!! On some occasions this has left me behind on my work but i always catch up, and i don't miss deadlines.Any errors I made I have owned up to and corrected. I am proud to say that I have these people saving to floppy and making their own word templates and generally being effecient workers. BUT Somehow my boss has managed to paint me as a slacking incompetent, as based on her glomming on to the odd times that my work has been behind and i had to catch up,or mistakes i made and (foolishly) admitted to because thats what grown ups are supposed to do,oh & that I have had alot of sick days this year. Those were genuine sick days...not job hunting days.lol! They should have been.I am rarely sick, I think my stress level has left me vunerable. Last week I was actually called "incompetent to do my job" to my face by her Supervisor because of the stories she fed her.I was astounded! Any motion to defend myself looked like excuse making. I feel its a no win situation. She is the Teflon Boss, she is the Paranoid Boss, she is the Narcisstic Boss (man, she was brutally cold when my beloved dad passed from cancer it was a big inconvenience). Yet, despite the pattern of complaints & transfers..she still has her job. And mine gets threatened regularly. Where's the justice?

Reply: I love it PC virgin.. My last boss is like that too. She ended up with copying all of my worksheets into her file. I found that there were too many files under my initial were duplicated. I knew for sure what was going on. She was not deserved to have my files to make her look good. She told me the same thing that I did not do my job after she copied my spreadsheets. What they planned is to get rid of me after they get what they want. Before I resigned, I had deleted all of them out from the system. She reported to her boss that her spreadsheet files were disappeared. I asked them when she made those spreadsheets. She asked me do and picked from my brain. I told my HR only it is good for her to learn how to do on her own. I believe that everyone capable to do something on their own.. copying to me is like cheating. This is sad.. again.. I don't know what to say.. I already made so many comments today.. ha ha..

Reply: My boss once gave me bad marks on my review for missing a day because I had to go to the funeral of my best friend's stillborn baby! And this from a woman who lost a baby years ago! I couldn't believe it. At the time, she told me to "take all the time you need" then later reprimanded me for missing ONE DAY. My advice is to keep your head down, act like you think your boss is the shiz-nit, and polish your resume. You may help your cause by making yourself indespensible to your coworkers and your boss by fixing everyone's computer problems, but if you can't get your own work done, that could also backfire on you. Find reasons why you can't help them, or, ask your boss's advice! Power freaks LOVE that. Say, "I NEED your guidance in this matter. I want to do the best job I can for you, but I am unable to do that if I am continually having to help THEM (do NOT insinuate your boss is one of "them"). How should I handle these repeated requests?" That will feed your boss's need to be in control, and you will probably get off the hook. Good luck.

Reply: To "siggpuppy" I feel your pain...what a sucky boss you have. People who steal from others to advance themselves still shock me after over 15 years in the workforce. To "NoRespect" Thanks for the info, i appreciate you taking the time. I am a straight up direct person. I hate mind games. I am no butt-kisser. To approach my boss and ask for help in that way would compromise that...that's why i'm moving on.This job is not worth it to me.
