Saying No to bad practices... someone help

I work in a shipping business. I work for other customers to ship their stuff, usually Fedex or UPS. One of our shipments got damaged and we had to process a money claim on the item. Everything was going well and good until I find out that another one of the employees didnt type in the right insurance amount. Claims will only give us the min amount which is a 100 dollars short. My boss now says there is nothing I can do about it. But the customer is expect all his money back to pay back his customer. I told my boss he is wrong and something needs to be done. But he wont listen to me and now wants me to call our client about why he isnt getting his money back. I do not want to do this, its totally wrong. We should pay for our mistakes...Am I wrong.??? Someone help please.

Reply: I agree, business ethics is very important to the survival of a company. If they keep doing these types of things to customers, the competetion will surely get the customers your company will lose from unethical and bad business practices. There is too much competition out there to have poor customer service.
