My past history of bad bosses taught me well.

Hello, well let me tell you have I had some pretty bad bosses in my work history. From the sexually harrassing jerk with the obvious issue of size to the annal retentive ass who likes to corner and intimidate women. Then there was the sales manager who only liked men. Can you guess what his problem was?I remember a day at work when I wasn't feeling to well and found myself running to the bathroom. When I returned this man was standing at my counter looking at his watch. Now, I did cover my counter with another salesperson, before I ran off to the bathroom. He informed me that I took to long and would be written up for it. I was angry and told him to go right ahead and asked if he would like a sample for his records. Well he didn't like that. Before this sales manager came to be, I was the top performing sales person always a winner in any store competion and my customers loved me. The store manager was very satisfied with my production and performance. My mother became very ill with luekemia and I had to cut back, just a little to support her in her treatment. The store manager understood and sympathized with me, but the sales manager just made it his mission to make my life miserable. He really couldn't do to much because my mother was dieing and nothing could have been worst. This went on for 9 months. I met all my obligations, despited the fact that I was down by 3 fulltimers. Made my goals and monthly meetings and kept myself sane. My mother died from the leukemia, but we put up the best fight we had.(my mother died the day before the Family Leave Bill went into effect Aug 1993) I returned to work less than a week following and tried to put my life back together. The sales manager was just looking to can me. It finally came down to it and I told the jerk to go right ahead because he couldn't do anything to me that would hurt as bad as the death of my mother. I walked out that day but learned a powerful lesson. I am a well loved and respected manager to this day. If there is an issue with family or illness or a sick parent and someone needs time off or a half day, that's fine with me.The most important thing is to respect the needs of your employees and they will respect and appreciate you too. When you need that extra favor to cover the w/e shift, your employees will show you just how much they care.

Reply: Wow.I have amazingly finally figured out that the bad boss has been the problem all along. Not me. I love my job, loved many jobs, but it really was the boss that ruined many of them, not the job itself. Poor training, no training, horrible boss skills, essentially blaming the worker(victim), when it was "bad" boss not "bad" worker. I have had union and nonunion jobs, and good bosses and bad bosses alike in both. How do you ever locate a good boss unless you have inside connections to someone who already works there? I dont see how you can interview to find this out, because good actors wont tell you the truth about a job anyway.Ive always tried to leave bad boss jobs without letting them know I think theyre bad bosses so I wont get a bad reference. I just lay low and get out when I can.I live in Florida where they lie with a smile. Employment law here is horrible. Any thoughts?

Reply: In my dictionary, I have both incomtetent boss and imcompetent subordinates. But the one on my boss desk has only the latter. Think about it... That's why they act that way.
