I live in B,C(on reserve) Canada,i have worked for a few years at my job.I have been on short-term disability,my boss phones and sometimes leaves angy messages for me to go to the workplace. She has requested i attend any workshops taking place in Sept-October 2005.I spoke to the shop steward(union)I was told no,do not attend any workshops as it will interfere with the health plan you are on.2 weeks ago i left a message at work requesting regestration forms for an annual conference we attend every year, she said"if you go you will have to pay your own way, also I am re-doing your job description, there will be a lot of changes"I said "so do i return to work in Nov?she said"it's up to you union" Since I am on reserve I do not know how to deal with this?

Reply: Hello from bc! I don't understand why you think living on a reserve is pertinent? Write down EVER SINGLE THING with dates and times (start and finish). I'm referring to phone messages, conversations, dr's visits etc. EVERYTHING. If you can't recall the time or date - indicate that in your notes as 'approximate'. Contact your shop steward and ask for assistance. Find out what your rights are as outlined in your union contract, find out the ways in which your union can help you resolve this issue. Find out how your job is protected while you are on sick leave - i.e. job description being changed. You sound like you're being set-up. Learn what your rights are, flex your muscles, and be as co-operative, nice, helpful and reasonable as possible while you try to avoid letting this boss screw you over. You still have to work with this person.
