    What do I do now?

The other day, a colleague of mine emailed to me a nasty message about my lack of work. I emailed it to our boss, who is his friend, and sent it to Human Resources. Now, my boss wants to have a meeting with me? What do I tell him when he asks why I went over his head?

Reply: When my boss asked me why I went to HR, I explained it was because we weren’t communicating and the point of HR was to facilitate communication in such cases. Not to assign blame, by the way. But to try and make it work. Actually, I have no idea what the point of our HR is, because they were totally useless. They backed right off from the whole thing as fast as they could. Nevertheless, the endeavor has produced some results. My boss seems to be coming around. I am absolutely stunned. He’s pretty manipulative though, and the company is divided between us, and neither one of us is going anywhere. So it’s like being in a bad marriage. It could be an act on his part, but I don’t care as long as we can focus on the work finally, rather than on stupid pointless politics! One thing to ask yourself is what you want to get out of the meeting. It has to be constructive.

Reply: tell him it was because they are friends that you felt the need for a third party to make it fair
